The word Ajrakh is believed to derive from the Arabic Azraq, meaning blue — though today Ajrakh encompasses a rich palette of natural colours. The Lagdi Patta (running border) is one of the most iconic Ajrakh motifs — a continuous, interlocking geometric pattern that symbolises infinity and continuity.

Vanaspati printing uses dyes derived entirely from plants, herbs, roots, bark, and flowers — including henna, pomegranate rind, turmeric, indigo, and madder root. These botanical dyes are not only beautiful but also beneficial — many have natural antibacterial and skin-soothing properties.
