Dabu Handblock Print Mulmul Cotton Saree – Buti Print in Pure Indigo Blue

Step into the ancient world of resist-printing with this breathtaking Dabu handblock print soft mulmul cotton saree in pure indigo blue. The delicate buti (small floral/dot) motifs are created using the rare and labour-intensive Dabu technique — where a paste of black mud, gum, and wheat chaff is hand-applied to the fabric to resist the dye, creating beautifully crisp white patterns against a deep, rich indigo blue ground.

This is not just a saree — it is a piece of living heritage, handcrafted by master artisans of Bagru, Rajasthan, using 100% natural indigo dye extracted from the indigo plant (Indigofera tinctoria).

✦ About the Dabu Craft

Dabu printing is one of Rajasthan's most ancient and intricate textile traditions. A thick paste — made from black clay (kali mitti), lime, gum, and wheat chaff — is hand-applied over the fabric using wooden blocks to create a resist. The fabric is then dipped in natural indigo vats, and when the resist paste is washed away, it reveals crisp, white patterns against the deep blue ground. The entire process is done by hand, outdoors, in harmony with nature. No two sarees are ever exactly alike — the slight variations are the hallmark of authentic Dabu handwork.
